About Us

Árhús is located on road 1 the ring road. 100 km east of Reykjavík. Árhús is in the heart of south Iceland. We offer cottage rental, a campsite and RV area. Árhús Restaurant serves a rich variety of local plates and global favourites.. Each of our cottages has a kitchenette with fridge. All cottages have private WCs and showers. The separate Arhus service building has a communal kitchen, dining area for campers and those with RV´s. Guests can also enjoy free Wi-Fi in public areas. We also provide BBQ equipment. The natural wonders of South Iceland are within reach. Landmannalaugar, Thorsmork, Emstrur and Seljalandsfoss are 20 – 50 km. away. The golden circle, Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir are only an hour away. Árhús are the Base Camp in South Iceland for travellers that are actively exploring the country on their own terms.

Hiking

The staff of Árhús are familiar with the hiking trails in South Iceland. Especially those that are nearby. Laugavegur, from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork is of course the most popular one. Also there are hiking trails in Thorsmork that we have helped hikers with, from Thorsmork to Alftavatn and to Fjallabak. One of the most popular hiking trail in the south is also around Hekla Volcano, we do have the trails market through GPS.

Tours & buses

At Árhús we have cooperation with the main bus companies that operate in South Iceland. Therefore, connecting our accommodation to Landmannalaugar, Thorsmork and Skogafoss. If you stay at our Base Camp Landmannalaugar, you have connections to all the main sights in South Iceland.

Riding horses

One of the most ancient forms of sightseeing in Iceland is on the back of the Icelandic horse. In South Iceland we have many horse rentals that offer the best guided tours. The seasoned guides can take you on some famous tours around the highlands or, if you prefer, around the local area.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking is becoming increasingly popular in Iceland due to the amount of great tracks available and their ease of access, for example biking around Hekla or Fimmvörðuháls.
