About Us

Árhús is located along the Ranga River, 100 km east of Reykjavík on the Ring road, Route 1. Set in idyllic fields on the banks of the river, we offer cottage and sleeping bag accommodation, in addition to a campsite and RV area. We also have an on-site restaurant serving a rich variety of local plates and global favourites. We also have a fully-stocked bar and a terrace overlooking the river, perfect for relaxing on a sunny evening. Each of our cottages has a kitchenette, with fridge, hob and electric kettle provided as standard. All cottages have private WCs and showers. The separate Arhus service building has a communal kitchen, dining area and laundry facilities for campers and those with RV´s. Guests can also enjoy free Wi-Fi in public areas. We also provide BBQ equipment and there is a play area to keep the children happy.

The staff of Árhús are familiar with the hiking trails in the South, especially those that are nearby. We know of trails that few people know about and therefore you can hike in solitude. We can also help you find a guide who will ensure your safety and add to your appreciation of the hike.

At South Door, we have recently started a partnership with Super Jeep tour guides. The Super Jeep tour is now an unmissable form of sightseeing in Iceland as it allows you to go places that are impossible on foot or in a normal vehicle. It is vital to us in Iceland that the nature is treated with the utmost respect and the drivers ensure that trails are followed and damage to the surrounding nature is prevented.

One of the most ancient forms of sightseeing in Iceland is on the back of the Icelandic horse. In South Iceland we have many horse rentals that offer the best guided tours. The seasoned guides can take you on some famous tours around the highlands or, if you prefer, around the local area.

Mountain Biking is becoming increasingly popular in Iceland due to the amount of great tracks available and their ease of access, for example biking around Hekla or Fimmvörðuháls.
